This technique eliminates all the problems associated with tachometers and encoders. Tachometers and encoders rely on contact rollers, which require constant calibration, create slippage errors between the roller and the material, and produce mechanical wear that requires constant maintenance. On the other hand, the LaserSpeed® gauge utilizes laser interferometry technology to accurately measure the length and speed of any moving material – without touching the product and eliminating the error sources and maintenance needs associated with mechanical tachometers and encoders.

The LaserSpeed gauge has two fully programmable quadrature pulse outputs that can be used to directly replace any encoder or tachometer. It can also be used for cutting control on any type of material – welded tubes, seamless pipes, roll formed products, rods and or any other product that needs accurate cutting control. The LaserSpeed is easy to install and simple to use.

The LaserSpeed gauge has an accuracy of ±0.05% with a repeatability of ±0.02%, has no moving parts to wear out, and never needs calibration.
