Ken Cornelison is nominated for revolutionary lay length measurement solution

Beta LaserMike, the leading global provider of precision measurement and control solutions, announced today that it received the 2011 Wire & Cable Technology International Achievement Award. Ken Cornelison was nominated for his development of the new technology “LayScan” which allows for the high-speed acquisition of lay length data. Ken Cornelison is the Business Development Director at Beta LaserMike.

The LayScan system uses optical, non- contact measurement technology to perform on-line lay length measurements with precision to within 1 mil. Providing high data rate capabilities, the system accurately determines the variations in lay length within each lay. It enables manufacturers to readily observe and measure systematic lay variations that are typically caused by twinning and cabling operations. The data acquisition system effectively collects and processes the lay length data and reports the measured results. With this technology, lay lengths can be accurately and consistently measured across different machines.

Wire & Cable Technology International is a leading trade publication for the wire and cable industry. The WCTI Technical Achievement Awards are given out annually to individuals in the wire and cable industry who have been responsible for major technical developments related to manufacturing, processing or using wire and cable. This year represents the seventh WCTI Technical Achievement Award.
